UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga received a visit from a world university ranking publisher Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), on Monday March 6. The guests were CEO of QS Asia’s University Ranking (AUR) Mandy Mok, and a senior researcher of QS AUR Samuel Wong.
Their visit was in line with the target set by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education for UNAIR to reach Top 500 world universities by 2020. To realize the expected synergy, officials of faculties, units, boards and institutes in UNAIR were invited.
In 2016, a new indicator was added. The number of lecturers with doctorates has been valued for 5% from the total indicators. “Therefore, we are trying to improve the number of lecturers with doctorates, including the citations,” said the Head of Planning and Development Board (BPP) and the WCU UNAIR program coordinator, Badri Munir Sukoco, Ph.D.
In his presentation, Samuel Wong said that UNAIR excels in medicine and natural sciences. Wong suggested UNAIR to accelerate publication and research in Social Sciences.
Badri said that BPP has had some contracts with the deans of the faculty. “We have also set the standards. So if all lecturers had acquired doctorates, at least 50 percent of them would have published. There was no regulations regarding that, and the deans are pushing the lecturers in each faculty, especially in Social sciences,” he added.
In an interview, Mandy Mok hoped UNAIR academicians to try to be heard and performed more in the international stage. It can be done by publishing more researches in reputable journals and taking parts in international conferences.
“To become a World Class University, you have to be heard and seen in the international stage, publish more, organize more activities in research and international publications, be most creative and keep up with the latest development,” she said. (*)
