UNAIR NEWS – There were two important things highlighted by World Class University evaluating team implemented by Universitas Airlangga. Both of them are in the criteria of ranking institution Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking (WUR), they are cademic reputation (30%) and alumni reputation (10%).
On academic reputation, UNAIR is expected to be consistent with its programs in the WCU schemes. Prof. Hermawan of the WCU evaluating team of Dirjen Dikti said that UNAIR already has interesting programs but the quantity and quality in need of improvements.
It was stated by Prof. Hermawan after the meeting on WCU program performance on Friday, August 12. Evaluation meeting was held in plenary room and attended by UNAIR Rector and other high ranked officials, also work units related to WCU. Interesting programs made by UNAIR in WCU scheme were Attracting Global Talent, also international conferences and seminars.
Prof. Hermawan admitted that UNAIR has a lot of potentials to develop. But they should be managed seriously in order to make UNAIR equal with other excellent Indonesian universities such as Universitas Indonesia. Prof. Hermawan said that UNAIR had a late start compared to other universities.
“UNAIR has great potentials, so hopefully one day, it can be equal with Universitas Indonesia. UI had an early start for WCU, ten years ago. And the others were a bit late to have concern about it. But they have same potentials so I think UNAIR can represent Indonesia at global level,” said Prof. Hermawan.
He suggested UNAIR to keep exploring its academician potentials to develop and improve. For example, double the number of international professors to conduct researches in UNAIR or also through international conferences.
“Keep exploring for unidentified potentials. It can be done through numbers, such as the number of international conference, can it be doubled? How many professors? Can it be doubled? Those numbers are expected to follow the score in the world ranking,” added Prof. Hermawan.
In the field of research, Prof. Hermawan admitted that researchers productivity is quite low. It happens in Indonesian universities when target of researches was already adjusted with the academic situation in each faculty. If the target determined has not been achieved, it will burden other advance fields. In the next years to come, Dikti will encourage social science researchers to be more productive. (*)
