UNAIR Faculty of Humanities’ Management visited the private university, which was established in 1885, on Thursday, November 17, 2022. The Dean of the Faculty of Policy Studies, Prof. Hidetaka Aoki Ph.D. and Prof. Hisanori Kato Ph.D., one of the professors, hosted the visitation.
Surrounded by the view of green hills, they warmly welcomed the delegates of Faculty of Humanities. The Indonesian flag was hoisted on the side of the campus gate as part of a tribute to the guests. Prof. Kato, dressed in brown batik, welcomed the guests at the campus gate.
“Today, I wear batik on purpose to welcome our special guests from Surabaya,” he said.
The meeting was conducted in the Faculty of Policy Studies meeting room on the fifth floor of the main building. Prof. Kato said he had known and fallen in love with Indonesia since 1994. He conducted intensive research on Islam in Indonesia and discussed with Islamic figures to gather information for his dissertation, which was presented for examination at Sydney University Australia in 2001.
Close bond between UNAIR Faculty of Humanities and Chuo University
The close bond between UNAIR Faculty of Humanities and Chuo University was first built by Dwi Anggoro Hadiutomo Ph.D. and strengthened by Prof. Kato. Ever since he joined Chuo University in 2009, he pioneered Indonesian language and culture learning.
Many students took the Indonesian language course, reaching 150 students on average. It encourages the collaboration initiative between the Faculty of Humanities and Chuo University. Students interested in learning the Indonesian language in advance can study at UNAIR. In 2022, two students from Chuo University were sent to UNAIR.
The meeting reached terms on several things, including the quota of Chuo University students who would be sent to FIB UNAIR. Around 15 students will study at the Faculty of Humanities to improve their Indonesian language skills in 2023.
The students will have the opportunity to learn Indonesian language and participate in the faculty’s international programs, such as Indiair, ASAIL, short courses, and many more. Besides, the collaboration will also cover the three pillars of higher education, particularly the research and publication fields.
Chuo University also agreed to accept UNAIR Faculty of Humanities students to outbound studies in Japan. They hoped that the student outbound quota will be increased. The Indonesian students’ presence was expected to improve other students to learn the Indonesian language and culture.
