UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga students have made another bright achievement. This time, Syah Muhammad Al Akbar and Yajna Paramitha Amanda Devi successfully won First Place in a paper presentation on the 34th National International Relations Students Week (PNMHII), Friday, November 18, 2022.
They explored the idea of integrated electricity and energy transition in Southeast Asia under the supervision of I Gede Wahyu Wicaksana Ph.D. Europe’s integrated electricity system inspired them.
“So there is an integrated electricity system for every country,” Syah said. The idea brought them to pass the elimination stage, final stage, until they won First Place.
However, Syah and Manda’s journey was not easy. The competition, which was held at Universitas Udayana Bali, was switched to online due to the G20 event with changes in regulations and mechanisms. The offline competition got switched to online due to the lack of venue.
“The schedule coincided with the G20, there is some internal issue. We were supposed to give a presentation in the presence of judges and other participants, but there was a sudden change in the technical mechanism. It was switched to online mode,” he said.
The struggle was real. Manda said that she had to study overtime in the campus library. “I had to study overtime. I live quite far from the campus, so I had to study overtime in the library.”
Due to the subject’s complexity, she had to go the extra mile. They studied the norm diffusion theory, which is usually given to post-graduate students. Besides, she also studied many other fields.
“I studied ASEAN, environment, and energy. It has been stressful, but it was worth it,” she said.
Thirst for achievement
It was an impressive win, but Manda was not satisfied. She aspired to maintain the achievement.
“Hopefully, I’d still be on fire to write more papers. I thought that writing papers is tiring. Bored, burnout, but I still want to do this,” she said.
Syah supported the thought. He was interested in trying new ideas for future competition. “Okay, we managed to do this. What else?” he said.
