Remo Dance documentary

The team leader, Reyhan said that his team made a cultural documentary, ‘The Living Remo’. In the movie, they chose Ms. Siwi, a dance studio owner in Sidotopo, to be the main role in representing the values within Remo dance.

“Philosophically, Remo means having a chivalrous soul or being resilient. After the interview, we get the picture that Ms. Siwi really implements the spirit of Remo. Therefore, we picture Remo in Ms. Siwi. She’s a single parent with two children who are college graduates. She is a dancer and an elementary school teacher. She juggles to make ends meet and teach dance in the studio,” he said.

Rayhan added that The Living Remo aims to re-instilling the spirit of patriotism and nationalism of the citizens of Surabaya post-pandemic. The team hoped that the documentary movie could motivate the young audience to preserve their cultural values.

“To be frank, we overhauled most parts of the movie during production due to the tight schedule. We are all busy with our own activities, being the committee of AMERTA and the Independence Day,” he said.

Thirdly, solid commitment from every team member. Fourth, time management as the production takes a lot of time.

“With the limited time, we brainstormed to decide the direction [of the movie]. At last, we arranged the shooting timeline effectively, and we used the results well to be one video,” Rayhan ended.
