UNAIR NEWS – As an effort to get global recognition, Universitas Airlangga has the honor of conducting research collaboration with Asia University, Taiwan. There were ten UNAIR researchers presenting their different researches on Tuesday, December 26.

The fields of research for the collaboration were tropical disease, stem cell, protein engineering, IT,  drug discovery, anthropology, psychology  economic business, and public health. Dr Purwati, dr., Sp.PD., KPTI., FINASIM., as the leader of Stem Cell team stated that the research collaboration between Stem Cell Research and Development Center Universitas Airlangga and Asia University was done in biotechnology and biomedical enggineering.

“In this regard, we’re working on stem cell and 3D printing development,” said Purwati.

Furthermore, Purwati also revealed that UNAIR as a center of excellent stem cell in Indonesia established by Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education in July, it has been one step ahead in stem cell development. Both in basic research and animal trial.

“In addition, we excel in research application based on mutual services with Regenerative Medicine RSUD Dr. Soetomo for some degenerative diseases,” she explained.

Meanwhile, for Asia University, added Purwati, the development of its 3D printing is one step ahead of UNAIR especially in scaffolding, using either biodegradable or non-biodegradable materials.

In the concept of bio engineering, Purwati asserted that especially in tissue engineering, the combination of scaffold from 3D printing and stem cell techniques will be very useful for the medical field, now and in the future, with the development and utilization of biological medical therapy.

“Furthermore, we were agreed to jointly develop gene-based stem cell research for enhancing cell delivery and micro RNA (miRNA),” she concluded.
