UNAIR NEWS – Anniversary is the right moment to hold various activities. For an institution, anniversary usually used to re-organize their future strategic steps. That is what implemented by Department of Communication Science UNAIR. In celebrating their 28th anniversary, students of Communication Science UNAIR or known as Commers held Commnight. The event held on Thursday, May 19, is the closing night of the anniversary celebration activities of an institution held on May 19, 1988.
“It is a tradition. There are many activities for the anniversary, Commchar, Commersale, Commgames, Commosphere, and the top of it all is this Commnight, we have tumpeng,” said Dr. Yayan Sakti Suryandaru, S.Sos.,M.Si, as the Head of Communication Science.
As the most important night of celebration, Commnight invited all students of the department, lecturers, employees and also alumni. So the alumni could share their experiences to students who are still studying.
“Commnight is a place for students, employees, lecturers and even alumni to gather. Besides to get acquaintances, alumni could share their experiences,” said Wahyu Ajip, last semester student who attended Commnight.
Held in Soetandyo Hall, Building C FISIP, the theme was Cosmo Odyssey. It was chosen as it illustrates general theme of the year’s anniversary celebration, Digital Era.
“We uniformed the themes as the great theme, Digital Era, so it sounds futuristic and illustrates our current condition of digitalization,” said Talin Vania, as the committee.
Besides being a place to gather, Commnight is used to perform talents as students from each year were asked to perform, from musicalization, to short film show of its students. In addition, there was an awarding session for alumni with excellent service in government institution.
“In this Hutkom event, we also give an award to alumni which we consider to be successful with the government, with NGOs of education and especially the media, it is to motivate others to show their excellent service in the society,” said Yayan Sakti.
“We hoped that communication students do not only work in institutions but also as entrepreneurs at least for themselves,” he added. (*)
