UNAIR NEWS – Fishery Products Industrial Technology (TIHP) Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) Universitas Airlangga keeps making breakthrough to rocket quality. In spite of being the youngest program at UNAIR, TIHP is able to match other programs excellence at UNAIR, including in the sector of public service.
They keep planning various services to implement one of the Tri Dharma of higher education services and as a proof that they concern about society. Dr. Rr. Juni Triastuti, S.Pi., M.Si., as the head of TIHP program explained that the various public services performed by the program that she headed was done annually, especially in fishery industry and fish management.
One of many services TIHP program did was fish management in Mandangin Island, Sampang, Madura.
“We did a public service in Mandangin Island with the university. So, it was first our university’s program, and when they saw that this place has good fishery potential, they assigned us,” explained Juni.
Apart from Mandangin Island, Juni stated that TIHP program also did public service in Trawas, Mojokerto Regency. While in Mandangin Island they focused more on fishery management, in Trawas TIHP program focused on fishery industry, on how to develop fishery products to be more efficient.
“In Trawas we also asked home industry to take care of fishery products so that it has more value. Yesterday, for example, we asked them to produce simple innovations, which is creating cireng made from fish flour. And the new food product was certainly better,” added Juni.
At the end of the interview, Juni added that there was one thing that gave pride to TIHP program, which was: the present of Surabaya Fisheries and Marine Department. The provincial government department asked for TIHP program partnership to help them survey fresh fish in Surabaya.
“Despite of our program’s youth, it is them who come here. It’s an honor for us. That means we do have excellence,” ended Juni.
