UNAIR NEWS – Rector of Universitas Airlangga Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., hoped that all lecturers, members of university senates and Board of Trustees (MWA) and students can create a synergy to make efforts in improving university ranking at national and international level.
”I’m sorry to remind you like this but our position is not ideal, especially when we have potentials to achieve the expected target. Our academic reputation, for example, UNAIR has made an improvement from rank 559th to 435th internationally. This indicator is actually in the range of World’s Top 500,” said UNAIR Rector.
It was stated during a dialog before iftar organized by Academic Senates (SA) Universitas Airlangga on Tuesday, June 6. Attending in the event opened by the Chair of Academic Senates Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amin, dr., Sp.P(K), members of Academic Senates, some Board of Trustee members, vice rectors and deans.
UNAIR Rector explained that in the future, the publications and internationalization will get more attention, the internal aspect will be improved. Therefore, UNAIR Rector also said that as of June 1 2017, UNAIR establish a new unit called Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE). It is designed to improve, pay attention and focus on thos two things.
”It is to focus and pay more attention to our programs so they are certified and accredited internationally, also to improve the international outbound and partnerships,” said Prof. M Nasih.

The new unit is trusted under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, Dra., M.Si., so it can work as expected.
”But Bu Nyoman is expected not only ‘staying with the goal’ because if the opponent is Real Madrid, we will be conceded more goals. So Bu Nyoman should also organizes AGE to be the striker, to boost and pay attention more to the internationalization as expected,” she said.
Prof. Nyoman’s previous position Director of Education, is filled by Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, drh., DEA., who was the Head of Quality Assurance Board. It is hoped that as someone who understand well quality of education, he is expected to improve the quality.
”We hope the publications indexed by Scopus will increase, the orientation is not only quantity but also quality. At least 400 publications can be achieved,” hoped UNAIR Rector.
In the occasion, Chair of SA Prof. Muhammad Amin also expressed his gratitude for all breakthroughs, achievements and appreciations made. He hoped that one day, he can have a dialog with Head of AGE Prof. Ni Nyoman about her new tasks so they work well as expected. (*)
