UNAIR NEWS – Digitalization in Indonesia has grown significantly. The number of internet users in Indonesia have reached 132 million and it is potential for the digital economics development.
The opportunities and challenges were discussed in The 3rd Asian Undergraduate Summit “Leadership in Complex World: Disruptive Change in Everyday Life”. The event attended by students in ASEAN countries was held on Monday, June 5 in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building Universitas Airlangga.
Special staff of Communication and Technology Minister, Ir. Lis Sutjiati, MBA said that the society should be responsive facing the digital development. According to her, digital economics concept is an opportunity to finish all the problems including economic disparity.
Sutjiati added that universities should play their roles in digital economics development in society. For example, through programs implementation in Community Service Program – Learning Together with the Community (KKN-BBM).
“It can be applied to KKN-BBM programs. Students can develop problem banks related to juvenile issues, education, house hold, environmental and many more. Those problems can later be categorized and then analyzed,” said the special staff of Menkominfo.
However, there is a challenge arising from this digitalization development. The information explosion has made millennial communities unfamiliar with the custom of discussion. Therefore, the received information is then continued to other parties without being verified first.
“It makes a generalization that when majority says something, it will be the truth. If we keep letting this go on, it will be exploited by some bad people. It will bring more negative impacts in facing the global competition,” she asserted.
The President Director of Pekku Instan Website Kevin Alendro said that digital era has given us time efficiency. It is an opportunity to solve problems.
“We need more innovation like Go-Jek. Go-Jek can change a lot of people’s lives through its service,” stated Kevin.
The 3rd Asian Undergraduate Summit program is the third collaboration of National University of Singapore and other universities in ASEAN including UNAIR.
The Director of Airlangga Global Engagement Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih said that this academic mobility event was an event for students to innovate and share ideas at global scale.
“Everyone plays their role especially the Indonesian people to face the digital era. Digital Economics has a great potential for the society. Students can start a real effort in making contributions to the local community,” explained Nyoman.
The event was attended by 20 students from three countries including Vietnam and held for seven days in UNAIR. In the second session, all participants of 3rdAsian Undergraduate Summit from various counties will gather in Singapore from June 28 to July 3.
