UNAIR NEWS – The Institute of Community Service (LPM) Universitas Airlangga in collaboration with the Islamic Orphanage Cooperative Board Surabaya (BKPAIS) to hold Drug Abuse Counseling and Learning Motivation in Higher Education for Youth in Orphanages in Surabaya.
The event held at the LPM Main Meeting Room of UNAIR, was attended by hundreds of orphans who joined in BKPAIS on Saturday, October 28. The Head of LPM UNAIR, Prof. Hery Agoes Hermadi said that the abuse of drugs is started from simple things that did not get attention. Prof. Hery also asserted, if someone is exposed to drugs then they will gain nothing but misery.
“If you’ve been exposed to drugs, you will lose many things. Besides hampering you at work, your future will also bleak, “he explained.
After the speech, there was a presentation on Drug Abuse Prevention by Ria Damayanti, SH, MM., as the Head of Prevention and Community Empowerment Division of National Narcotics Agency of East Java. Before explaining further how to prevent drug abuse, Ria explained that narcotics is actually a medicine for medical reason and a misused research.
“These narcotics may be used actually, but it must follow the rules and usability. Not abused, ” she explained.
Furthermore, Ria also explained some phenomena of drug users. In presence of the participants, Ria showed some evidence that drug users are spread from different range of ages and all elements of society, the rich or even the poor.
“Currently, drug users hit all layers, celebrities, common folk, men or women, all affected. So be careful, ” she asserted.
In the next explanation, after explaining various types of drugs that are classified as old or new types of drugs, Ria also confirmed that drugs are the greatest threat of future generations of the nation. For her, drugs are faceless colonialists ready to destroy the country.
“The dangers of drugs will spread on many things, achievements and dreams of the future will be lost,” she explained.
In the end, Ria also pointed out various ways of drug smuggling, effects after taking drugs, the views of Islam on the abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs. Not only that, she also explained how to smartly refuse drugs.
“There are many intelligent ways we can do, one of themis by building self-creativity and improve faith,” she concluded.
