UNAIR NEWS – Student of Public Health Sciences Undergraduate Program PSDKU Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi, Gayatri Ayodhya, came up with a creative idea to make comic as health promotion media. Promotional content was to prevent the occurrence of sexual violence in elementary school children (SD). It was disseminated on Monday, November 13 to students of SD Negeri 1 Giri, Banyuwangi.
According to Jayanti Dian Eka Sari, S.KM., M.Kes., Media of Communication, Information and Education lecturer at the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior Sciences (PKIP) PSDKU Universitas Airlangga Banyuwangi, that the high number of cases of sexual violence in children in Indonesia makes most parents restless.
“Children in today’s era find it difficult to hear monotonous advice. This is what encourages students as candidates for public health graduates to innovate and make health promotion media. The goal is to prevent health disorders to spread and messages can be conveyed and received easily by children, “said Jayanti.
Described by Gayatri Ayodhya, the target of his team is children aged 7 to 12 years, who on average are elementary school education.
“At first I noticed the habit of children in SDN 1 Giri who like to read comics, children in elementary school bench are already able to read and they love reading media with images. The idea came up to make a comic containing this health messages, ” Gayatri added.

The background of the theme was the high number of cases of sexual violence in Indonesia is quite high, and it is prone to happen to children. It is believed that the children and parents lacked knowledge on sexual violence issue.
“Therefore finally our team made this media and then we promote it to the children in SDN 1 Giri,” she added.
Gayatri Ayodhya team was with four friends namely Ary Kusmita, Reynaldy Bimatara, Meidyas Dwi Anggraeni and Triska Maida Cahyani. Some lecturers participated directly in giving information to students.
In addition to explaining the use of comic as media, the team also preformed a play so students really understand the purpose of the message delivered. In addition, the teachers and Principals of SDN 1 Giri also gave full support for the implementation of this dissemination. (*)
