Winning Two Debate Competitions in a Month

UNAIR NEWS – Within one month, two delegations of Universitas Airlangga won first place in two national debate events. First, the first winner of the national science week debate held by Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Andalas University (Unand) on November 1-4. Second, first winner of National Debate Pimnas UPN Veteran Yogyakarta on 28-30 November.

The people behind the success were Hasbi Asidiqi, student of Taxation three year vocational program Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR 2015, and Rico Pahlawan, Political Science student FISIP UNAIR 2013. In fact, in the debate event in Unand, Rico got the award as best speakers.

At Unand, Rico and Hasbi were teamed up with Putu Shangrina Pramudia, International Relations Program student of FISIP UNAIR 2017. The theme of this debate competition was “Critical Aspiration for Indonesia”. In the semifinals, they won from the delegation of the University of North Sumatra (USU) Medan (third winner). In the final round, they won from the delegation of the University of Riau (second winner).

Meanwhile, at University of National Development (UPN) Veteran Yogyakarta, Rico and Hasbi were teamed up with I Gusti Agung Ngurah Dicky Haravana, a International Relations Program student of FISIP UNAIR 2016. Themed “State Defense dan Role of Citizen”, in semifinal, UNAIR was able to defeat the Indonesian Defense University (UNHAN) delegation of Jakarta (third winner) and UPN Veteran Yogyakarta delegation (second winner) in the final.

To UNAIR News , Rico and Hasbi hoped scientific discourse competition can be implemented by UNAIR students. It is intended as a form of contribution for the benefit of nation since college.

“The important thing to know is that lecture is not just in the classroom. Outside, experiences await, “said Hasbi who is also the outstanding student of Faculty of Vocational Studies 2017.

On the other hand, Rico considered that UNAIR has great reputation because of students who have made achievements at both national and international events .

“UNAIR is great not because of its name, but because of its students who are productive, progressive, and contributive,” he explained. (*)
