UNAIR NEWS – Delegation of Universitas Airlangga successfully won the 1st and 3rd place in competition held by Gunadarma Sharia Economic Event (GSENT) 2018 at Gunadarma University, Depok. The competition lasted from April 18 to 21, 2018 was intended for all college students in Indonesia, especially the study of Islamic Economics.
There were three teams of UNAIR delegation. Two teams managed to qualify for the grand final round . Team 1 members were Abdul Kafi (Islamic Economics, 2016), Evi Aninatin Ni’matul Choiriyah (Islamic Economics, 2016), and Salma Fioren Salsabella (Islamic Economics, 2016) and team 2 were Rizka Lailatu Millah (Economic Development, 2015), Muhammad Ruliszar (Management, 2016), and Muhammad Bachrul Ulum Fanani (Accounting, 2015).
There were three preliminary rounds in the competition. First round was essays submission and online virtual tests. The second round was written tests, open discussions, and case studies. For the third round or final, 4 teams were chosen from 12 teams.
In the third round, the committee provided a case study so the whole team can exchange ideas.
This kind of competition is quite popular among UNAIR students. It hones students’ skills from the theory gained in the classes.
“Our idea is simple. Guidance and empowerment of people with disabilities who have special needs. Most people still discriminate against disabled people who actually have the same rights as other humans. With the limitations they have, they are shunned and underestimated, “said Evi, team who won 1st place.
Preparation for the competition, continued Evi, was conducted with learning and discussion as well as reviewing the material. In open discussions and case studies, they attempt to discuss the major themes of GSENT and share tasks to search for relevant data references. All members then exchanged their thoughts and opinions.
Before winning this competition, Evi and other team members have won similar competition. She has been a finalist and winner of LKTI 3 rd Best Paper on Innovation Paper at The 6 th Sharia Economics Days at University of Indonesia. Salma had won 1st at Olympiad of Islamic Economics TEMILNAS by FoSSEI while Abdul became the third winner of GSENT 2017 National Islamic Economic Olympiad.
“Moving is tiring, but staying silent is more embarrassing. And da’wah way is difficult. If there is a da’wah way that is easy it must be a wrong way. We hope greatly to influence and provide usefulness to the surrounding environment, “Evi added. (*)
