UNAIR NEWS – For students, presentation is not a new thing as they often do in their studies. Moreover, students are not only required to have hard skills, but also soft skills. One of the soft skills students need to have is the skill for presentation.
According to Stephany Ruth Anchilla, one of the speakers at BEAUTYVERSITY event in Kahuripan Hall Campus C UNAIR, presentation is persuasive communication aimed to convey an idea, work, situation, or case, through verbal and non-verbal methods to form self-confidence.
“The purpose of the presentation is to convey a message or idea and show the work. Persuasive means to influence in a positive way, ” she said.
There are seven ways to deliver a good presentation according to the Miss Friendship, speak and use body language, avoid talking using slides continuously, always maintain enthusiasm, explain the material presented, make the numbers meaningful or present data, master the material, and practice a lot.
“We must know who the audience is because, it will affect the language we will use. If our audience is young, the language is the language commonly used by young people, but still must be polite. The volume of voice and intonation must also be clear. In addition, the tempo, articulation, and pauses must be considered, “said the woman who was also Ning Surabaya 2017.
There are also some things that must be considered, appearance, eye contact, distance, facial expression, tone of voice, movement, and posture.
“Avoid reading slides continuously. Because, it is a bad habit when presenting,” she said.
“If we keep reading slides, it looks like we do not master the material. The solution is reviewing slides or knowing important points in the material, ” she added.
According to Stephany, it is best to do the exercises before the presentation. Because, pre-presentation training can be one of the important things needed to measure how mature a person is. (*)
