UNAIR NEWS – The officials of BEM Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga distributed wrapped meals to some working ladies in Kartini’s Day, April 21. They collaborated with Amira Bilqis Community and distributed a thousand wrapped meals “Serbung—Seribu Bungkus” for women who work in Jalan Dharmawangsa, Kertajaya, Pucang, Kali Dami, Ngagel, until Dharma Husada.
Some volunteers gathered in Nuruzzaman mosque before they scattered. They did not have difficulties to find women working in the streets, such as in street vendors, cleaning service, newspapers’ agents.
Vice coordinator of community service division BEM FEB, Primastari Ayu Damayanti, said that the Kartini’s Day moment reminded them to women who earn money for the family.
“They often have to stay in the heat of the day to sell newspapers in the crossroads or selling wrapped meals and coffee in the streets. Their struggle is not like Kartini’s who wrote book and voiced the women rights to live free and independent, but with sweats to support their family,” said Primastari about the goal of the event.
Distributing wrapped meal was their way to ease the burden of working women. Nevertheless, some men were also given the meals.
“Happy Kartini’s Day, ma’am. May this little thing from us can be useful for you,” said Primastari.
“Thank you. I can’t say much about Kartini, but thank you for this wrapped meal,” said Hartini, a cleaner in Nuruzzaman Mosque.
In the future, the community service division of BEM FEB will gather students and organizations to contribute in society. “Something done together will bring changes and return the students’ role as agents of change,” said Primastari.
