UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga always performs effective technology optimalization. All research fields are conducting applied programs. One of them was done by the team led by Dr. Ernie Maduratna, drg., M.Kes., Sp. Perio (K). Inter-faculty academicians have created formula (tools or medication) for disease prevention and dental health therapy especially related to gum inflammation.

Some of the products are toothbrush and mouthwash which can strengthen gum cells as well as kill the bacteria and poison which causes inflammation. Furthermore, there is also antibiotic like gel and drugs as the solution to corroding teeth. The team also created herbal concoction and laser tool to treat corroding teeth caused by gum inflammation.

The woman known as Ernie explained that quality of the laser tool created by her team is not very different from the imported tool. She can prove it. The price is also affordable. “The clinics or hospital usually use the imported version which can reach Rp 15 million. Our version is only about Rp 3 million,” said the lecturer who has done her bachelor, master and doctoral in UNAIR.

Meanwhile, for the herbal medication, it was made of chlorophyll extract of Moringa. Generally the treatment is done by applying the herbal formula to the part with the problem. After that, laser is beamed to the point. It can only be performed by dentists. For three millimeters, imported tool costs Rp 400 thousand but UNAIR version costs only Rp 10 thousand. (*)
