Faculty of Vocational Study Establishes Partnership with German to Redesign Curriculum

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga keeps striving to maintain and improve curriculum to produce global competitive teaching method. Thus, the faculty which established in 2014 establishes partnership with Senior Experten Service (SES) Germany, On Monday (16/10) in discussion and management about learning curriculum.

Germany is recognized as the best vocational teaching, which expected can provide some suggestions for curriculum in Faculty of vocational studies to produce qualified graduates.

Vice Dean 1 Faculty of Vocational Studies, Prof. Dr. Retna Apsari, M.Si, admitted that curriculum is the first gate toward internationalization. Thus, the equal curriculum must be actualized.

“Internationalization began with curriculum. If we have equal curriculum to others, we can do transfer credit,” She said

She stated that unequal curriculum to other vocational school abroad raises constraints. Therefore, students who join student exchange programs abroad cannot make transfer credit because the curriculum is not equal.

“The outbound student have constrain with credit transfer due to the different curriculum. So, if we have same curriculum, the internationalization will be actualized soon,” Retna stated

Faculty of Vocational Study UNAIR which has been involved in Indonesia Vocational Studies School Forum (FPTVI), agreed about SES suggestion to apply 3+2+1 curriculum to determine new curriculum in 2018.

Retna confessed that the Curriculum in German would not be all applied in Indonesia due to different Industrial needs. Through partnership establishment between UNAIrRand SES, she expected the internationalization would be actualized as soon as possible.

“Exactly, this is our very beginning, but at least, we start internationalization with the experts to be applied. For next year, we will invite one or two person to discuss in German,” She said

In respond Retna’s statement, The Vice rector of education and student affairs Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., Ph.D., FINASIM expected that the partnership with SES not only have once but also in periodic.

“The goals is to complete internationalization program in Faculty of Vocational Studies, because, industrial countries have their own power to be emulated,” She stated

Djoko hoped that after the new curriculum is formed and begin to be applied, Faculty of Vocational Studies can produce qualified graduates based on community needs.
