FK UNAIR Encourages Medical Specialists to Comply SOP

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Airlangga once again inaugurated a new batch of medical specialists. This time, the Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. DrSoetojo, dr, SpU (K) inaugurated 74 new medical specialist as the 122nd batch in the Hall of FK UNAIR, Wednesday, September 20. They are graduates of Specialist and sub Specialist Education Program from 17 majors in FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya.

Since the establishment of Medical Specialist Education Program in 2002, FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo has inaugurated 3,118 medical specialist. Total number of specialists in Indonesia is around 30 thousand specialists.

Deputy Director of Medical Services RSUD Dr. Dr. Soetomo Djoni Wahyuhadi, dr., Sp.BS in his speech said that specialist medical school is the hardest among other medical education level. This is because during the education of medical specialists, students are required to be flexible to face various pressures at work as well as college assignments. In a week, specialist medical school students work for 80 hours in the hospital while also do their college assignments.

“Everyday, the students of this specialist program do practical work in the hospital, the sample is human. So they really must be careful not to make mistakes in handling the patients, ” he said.

In today’s era, the challenge of becoming a specialist is not easy. Competition is everywhere with the changing government policy. Although in the midst of less conducive conditions, Djoni stressed that the graduates of medical specialists of FK UNAIR-RSUD DR. Soetomo adheres firmly to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of medical profession.

Current SOP in RSUD Dr. Soetomo refers to national and international accreditation standards and any healthcare facilities always have SOP.

“So if you work in any healthcare facilities, doctors must comply to the existing SOP. If the doctors graduated from UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo consistently adhere to the SOP, we hope these doctors are able to provide excellent service and better quality, “he concluded.
