UNAIR NEWS – Water Treatment Plant (IPAM) Karangpilang PDAM “Surya Sembada” Surabaya, have just received a visit from 56 FK UNAIR students at Junior Doctor II level. They went directly to IPAM Karangpilang 2 in Jalan Krangpilang, on Wednesday, January 20.
The advising lecturer, Atika, M.Si., S.Si., from Public Health Science- Preventive Medicine Division (IKM-KP) FK UNAIR, interviewed on Monday, February 15, confirmed that the visit was done routinely as a part of Junior Doctor II program with IKM-KP. The program is conducted for eight weeks. It aims to educate students on things related to water environmental diseases.
”So, they must know the chemical requirements of clean water and diseases caused by below standard water. Thus, students are also introduced to water extraction, processing, chemical treatment in a laboratory until it is ready to be distributed to public,” Atika said.
Prafa Alif Rahman, the leader of the students’ group also confirmed that he and his group were welcomed by Agus Eko Setiyono, the production supervisor of IPAM Karangpilang 2 in CCP room.
To students, according to Prafa, the knowledge of water treatment is new for him and his group. So, it is also a good insight on water quality standards processed when they are in the society.
Agus Eko Setiyono, Production Supervisor of IPAM Karangpilang 2, explained the process of water treatment in his plant and Agus Salim, Laboratory Supervisor explained the process of chemical treatment to process the water.
After receiving explanations on water processing and chemical treatment, the students were directed to see the processes on the spot guided by Didik Hardinanto, Production Supervisor of Karangpilang 1. The results from the visit will be discussed in class. (*)
