UNAIR NEWS – After winning the 12th Indonesian Round of the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, the delegation of Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) advanced to international event representing Indonesia.
The team consists of four people, Cristian Lu (2014), Devi Salsabila (2016), Amri Rahayu (2015), and Aulia Putri (2015). The four of them participated in a moot-court competition with the theme of International Humanitarian Law in the 16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Moot in Asia Pacific held in Hongkong March 6-10, 2018.
Aula Putri, one of the representatives revealed that she and the team had done a thorough preparation to face the competition. She did not want to waste the opportunity that does not come twice.
For three months before the competition, they did various preparations, from building arguments between pros and cons for every motion, researching and organizing memorials, undergoing regular exercises in between college schedules, and trying to manage time between college assignments and the competition. In this competition, they represented the International Law Student Association (ILSA) Semi-Autonomous Body (BSO) FH UNAIR.
Unfortunately, in the competition held at Hong Kong University, the FH delegation was only able to achieve the general round. The competition was won by delegates from Gujarat National Law University, India.
Although they did not win, Risma said that she was very grateful to have the opportunity to compete in the International arena. She and the team were also the only delegates from Indonesia.
From the competition, she got a lot of lessons and experience. She also had the opportunity to meet with one of the judges of International Criminal Court, officials from Hong Kong Red Cross, and many more.
Risma added, through this competition she understands the standard expected by the international jury. It was very useful lesson for the next competition.
At the end, Risma hoped that her team’s victory at The 12th Indonesian Round of the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition and being an Indonesian representative can inspire and motivate other FH UNAIR students. So, FH UNAIR remains successful, both in the national and international arena.
“Hopefully in the next competition, FH UNAIR delegation can maintain achievement in Indonesian International Round of the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition and get better results in the next international event,” she concluded. (*)
