Kartini’s Day Celebration of Dharmawanita Persatuan FKM

UNAIR NEWS – The women were wearing their best dress, traditional Javanese dress with high heels. They put on make-up and arrange their hair and hijab beautifully. When the time comes, they walked slowly like models on catwalk and showed their beautiful appearances. They smiled once in a while to the audience.

They were members of Dharmawanita Persatuan of Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga. During their busy schedule,  they celebrated Kartini’s Day on Friday, April 21.

In the celebration,  Dharmawanita Persatuan Faculty of Public Health (FKM)  Universitas Airlangga celebrated the birthday of the woman who marked the awakening of Indonesian women.

In the occasion, the lecturers, educational staff and lecturers’ wives read Kartini’s letters, had a talk show, fashion show and health check-ups.

“Go and pursue your dreams. Work for your future. Work for the happiness of the oppressed,” a line from the letters read by a member of the group.

The development psychology expert of Faculty of Psychology UNAIR, Dr. Dewi Retno Suminar, in the talk show, said that women are expected to compartmentalize their roles as wives, mothers, and career women and their time.

“Office hours usually end at 5 in the afternoon. Don’t talk about work after that. Time management is important,” said Dewi during her speech, “Dengan Semangat Kartini Kita Bangun Wanita Indonesia Yang Anggun, Mandiri, dan Bekerja Nyata Turut Serta Mencerdaskan Bangsa“.

“Elegance will appear if the time management is effective,” she added.

Head of Dharmawanita Persatuan FKM UNAIR, Retha Pulung, said that the event was to celebrate Kartini’s day which is a routine. It was also aimed to make the members of Dharmawanita to be elegant, independent and dignified on everything.
