Kemenristekdikti Officially Closes POMNAS XV

UNAIR NEWS – Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasir officially closed the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) XV 2017, at GOR Hasanuddin University Jl. Perintis KEmerdekaan Km 5, Tamalanrea, Makassar, Saturday, October 21.

This Indonesian student sporting event was organized by the Indonesian Student Sport Supervisory Board (BAPOMI). This year, POMNAS had “Togetherness and Diversity in Student Sport Development to Make Achievement” as a theme organized  14 sports with 2,645 athletes and 1,096 officials from 33 contingent of BAPOMI in Indonesia.

“By expressing thanks alhamdulillah, I officially close National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) XV,” said Kemenristekdikti Prof. M. Nasir, concluding his remarks in the closing of POMNAS in Makassar. The minister was accompanied by General Director of Learning and Student Affairs Kemenristekdikti, Prof. Intan Ahmad, PhD and Coordinator of Kopertis Region IX South Sulawesi Prof. Dr. Ir. Andi Niartiningsih, MP.

Prof. M. Nasir, said that the success of POMNAS in Makassar is a continuation of similar success from two previous national events, the commemoration of Harteknas (National Technology Day) and PIMNAS (National Student Scientific Week) last September.

Kemenristekdikti was proud that through the activities of POMNAS, universities  contribute to the development of national athletes. Furthermore, it became a forum of sports among universities, as a way to build the solidity and cohesiveness of the nation’s children from all over the country.

“We hope that this kind of activity can have a significant positive impact on a more harmonious social life,” said Prof. M. Nasir.

Quoting the press statement of Kemenristekdikti, POMNAS is part of the student’s sports competency system, as well as a sports event held every other year at national level implemented by BAPOMI.

“We will host the 2018 Asian Games, we hope there are among these POMNAS athletes who will contribute in Indonesia,” said Prof. M. Nasir.

Both Kemenristekditi and Rector Unhas Prof. Dwia Aris Tina Pulubuhu in their remarks congratulated BAPOMI DKI Jakarta which successfully defended the grand champion title of POMNAS XIV in Aceh 2015. This year DKI won 51 gold, 32 silver and 35 bronze medals (51-32-35).

Besides being the grand champion, BAPOMI DKI Jakarta also won to host POMNAS XVI / 2019. DKI defeated BAPOMI Bangka Belitung, North Sumatra, and Central Java who are interested to host POMNAS in 2019.

The team below DKI Jakarta in POMNAS XV is West Java (27 – 24 – 31), the host South Sulawesi (26 – 16 – 22), Central Java (13-16 – 32) and East Java with 12 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze medals.

The contingent BAPOMI East Java under the leadership of Chairman Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Ph.D., Sp.PD., K-GH FINASIM (Vice Rector I UNAIR) consisted of 190 athletes. East Java team was led by Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes.

The top five contributors of Jatim student athletes are Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Universitas Surabaya (Ubaya) and Universitas Airlangga. (*)
