UNAIR NEWS – The library of Universitas Airlangga held a seminar and call for paper event “Library Transformation as Research Data Management to Support World Class University”. The theme was chosen as a manifestation of the library’s commitment in supporting UNAIR as one of the world-class universities. Moreover, libraries should be transformed as the development center of “Data Research Management “.
Some of the topics followed for call for paper events were Management Data Research, Library Management, Information Literacy, Library Innovation, Information Technology, Library Innovation, Networking & Collaboration between Libraries.
The seminar was divided into two sections, on Wednesday, April 25, the speaker was Sadjuga, Director of Intellectual Property Management General Directorate of Research Reinforcement and Development of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. In his presentation he discussed about the development of literacy of Indonesian manifested in scientific publications.
“It is now the right moment to improve scientific publications compared to countries in Southeast Asia,” he said.
Sadjuga also emphasized the importance of librarians’ role in improving literacy skills through scientific publications. For him, the librarians must change the paradigm from printed to electronics. He continued, librarians should be able to partner with lecturers and researchers in terms of searching and managing information, especially for the access of E-Journal subscribed by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education so it can be used in an optimal way.
“Not only that, librarians should also be able to improve their competence by joining the degree and non degree scholarship programs held by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education,” he said.
The second speaker, Dra. Woro Titi Haryanti, MA., as Deputy of Library Resources Development. In his presentation, she spoke about the National Library’s Role in the Career Development of Librarian Profession. Furthermore, he also explained the task of National Library which carry out government tasks in the field of libraries that functions as a guide, referral, deposit, research, conservation and networking.
“One of the focus areas built by National Library is the librarians. National Library has a passion for assisting the career development of librarians, “she said.
University Secretary, Drs. Koko Srimulyo, M.Si., as the third speaker spoke about Librarian Career Development in the Information Age. Koko said that Indonesia is currently facing great challenges of the times with the emergence of creative class and industry revolution 4.0.
In order to win the competition, he explained, not only to survive in the future, libraries and librarians must “change” to develop their organizational dynamic capacity appropriately and effectively.
“The consequence for the library is that there must be a change of organizational paradigm from traditional to modern. It is part of the change of library management, ” he explained.
After the seminar session is over, the event continued with a call for paper presentation . The themes were: research data management, library management, information literacy, library innovation, information technology, and library, network and collaboration. There were 45 papers presented and total participants of 83 people. Call For Paper presentation was divided into 4 rooms with moderators Agung Budi K., Dewi Puspitasari, Ika Rudianto and Novita Dwi Anawati.
