Vet Partners Nusa Bestari Medical Centre is where I had the pleasure of completing my
veterinary internship from July 7 to July 26, 2025. This internship allowed me to integrate my
theoretical knowledge from my veterinary coursework into the actual practice of clinical
veterinary medicine. After being exposed to the clinics, I learned how to care for patients and
deal with professionals, which gave me an understanding of how veterinarians practice their
profession.
I had the chance to see and help with several clinical cases involving small animal practice,
especially with cats and dogs. I was invited to cases dealing with the skin, the gastrointestinal
tract, the kidneys, and the lungs, and emergencies as well. Helping manage the respiratory
distress of amniotic fluid obstruction of the nose and lungs of newborn kittens was one of the
cases I will never forget. I learned the techniques of emergency neonatal care of airway
obstruction, respiratory stimulation, and supportive care, so I am really grateful to the
veterinarian who taught me this. This experience will be etched in my mind forever because of
how important fast actions, gentle hands, and clinical thinking are to help save the life of
something so fragile in need of help.
Besides the case exposure, I utilized some basic diagnostic equipment, such as blood testing
machines and rapid diagnostic tests. I learned to interpret some blood parameters, like those
for the kidneys and the liver, which help in determining diseases and monitoring their progress.
I also supported basic tasks such as animal handling, blood drawing, cleaning of wounds,
giving drugs, and keeping the clinic clean and safe for the patients and staff, all under the
supervision of a veterinarian.
Importantly, I also learned some crucial soft skills for the profession. I saw how the
veterinarians spoke to pet owners, explained their problems, and maintained calmness and
composure to help the owners remain calm and stress-free. I learned that for a veterinarian tocommand the attention of the client, there should be some level of trust, which is achieved
through effective communication, empathy, and professionalism. I also learned teamwork and
time management skills while working with veterinarians, nurses, and other clinic staff.
Summarily, I am glad for the internship opportunity I got at The Vet Partners Nusa Bestari
Medical Centre. The internship was very impactful on my academic and professional life as it
strengthened my interests and passion for veterinary medicine. It made me realize that I have
a lot to achieve, and I am eager to develop a lot of skills and knowledge to assist in animal
welfare and clinical veterinary medicine as a veterinarian.
