UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga has inaugurated 120 new medical specialists in FK Hall UNAIR, on Thursday, March 22. In this occasion, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih MT., SE., Ak., CMA., witnessed the proceeding of specialist diploma awarding. Prof. Nasih said that the good and the bad of university or education institution is seen from the quality of the graduates, reputation and how others view it. The key to achievement is on how to improve employer reputation.
“We hope FK UNAIR to be the best, at least Top 100 in the world, it is a challenge for us,” he said.
To improve reputation, the role of alumni is significant. From Prof. Nasih’s viewpoint, UNAIR graduates are not brave enough to show their excellent UNAIR performance. “If our graduates ‘go slow’ and do not show their excellence, I’m afraid UNAIR in 2020 will not be able to compete with world class university. The name of UNAIR won’t be noticeable in the map,” he said.
The medical field is a field of service.Prof. Nasih hoped that the new specialists are brave enough to show their dedication to society. In the end, the society will notice the FK UNAIR dedication, so the world will understand UNAIR’s excellence.
In response to President’s Regulation Number 4 in 2017 regarding the Medical Specialist Compulsory Practice, Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr, SpU (K) hoped the graduates serve seriously in the remote area.
As the distribution of Medical specialists in Indonesia is not even yet as they are concentrated in big urban areas, the decree will accelerate even distribution of medical staff, especially medical specialists in the borders, the outermost and the most disadvantaged areas. As it is obliged, all medical specialists will have to take part in this program or otherwise they will be punished.
“For doctors which do not join the program, will only receive one Certificate of Registration(STR), which can be used for medical practice, when they are supposed to get three. Consequently, the doctor can only open practice in hospital decided by the Ministry of Health,” he explained.
For the doctor practical assignment, there are 144 hospitals suggested for the medical specialist assignment. “The work period lasts for a year. FK UNAIR is assigned for East Java, Maluku and West Papua,” he added.
Prof Soetojo encouraged the medical specialists to join the program. “We hope, even when you are graduated and work, you will still actively publish researches. So the alumni will keep supporting UNAIR to achieve World Class University” he said. (*)
