UNAIR NEWS – The graduation ceremony of Universitas Airlangga in academic year 2018 was held for two days on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 -4, at Airlangga Convention Center Building, Campus C Mulyorejo Surabaya. In the graduation ceremonies, Rector of UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, S.E., M.T.., Ak., CMA, graduated 2,445 students of Universitas Airlangga.
There were 177 Diploma-3 (D-3 / Vocational) graduates, 1,779 S-1 (Bachelor’s) graduates, 431 S-2 (Master) graduates, and 58 S-3 (Doctoral) graduates. On the first day, Saturday, March 3, there were 1,251 graduates, while on Sunday, March 4, there was 1,194.
Among the 2,445 graduates, 28 were selected as the Best Graduates from each level of study in the faculty. The best graduates have the highest GPA among graduates. In addition, 14 graduates were selected as outstanding graduates for their achievements in non-academic activities.
Most graduates were from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), 465 people. The second faculty with most graduates was the Faculty of Medicine (FK) with 267 graduates, and the third was the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) with 244 graduates.
Great Perseverance
In his speech to thousands of UNAIR graduates on Saturday (3/3) yesterday, Rector Prof. Mohammad Nasih hoped that all UNAIR graduates should show perseverance. They are expected to always struggle and innovate to overcome community problems.
“With the knowledge gained in the university, and unyielding fighting spirit, I am sure and believe you will be able to implement it,” said Rector.
On the contrary, he continued, even after graduating S3 (Doctoral degree), with cum laude ,GPA 4.00, but if we do not have the fighting power, it will be difficult to achieve the goals. This fighting spirit is always expected to every UNAIR student and alumni. They are also expected to learn continuously, because the true source of knowledge is in society.
The professor of Accounting Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR affirmed that anyone who is able to learn in the midst of society, will be able to face the changing times. The Rector also advised them not to laze around.
It is said that the university has provided the best knowledge to all students. Unfortunately, one of the weaknesses of UNAIR graduates is their reluctance to appear more prominent.
“Being modest is fine, but avoid being too modest. We will be considered inferior. Besides, if we’re too humble, nobody will know us when Universitas Airlangga is one of the best universities in Indonesia, at least fourth among hundred of universities, “said Prof. Moh. Nasih.
Meanwhile, in a series of graduations yesterday, mobile app for the Universitas Airlangga (IKA-UNAIR) Alumni Association was launched by IKA-UNAIR a member of IKA UNAIR boards, First Admiral Drg. Nora Lelyana, MH.Kes, who currently serves as Head of the IKA Faculty of Dental Medicine (IKA-FKG).
To the best graduates and outstanding graduates, Rector was accompanied by the Head of Academic Senate University to give the Certificate of Merit for the achievements. (*)
