UNAIR NEWS – Duck eggs are a good source of animal protein. However, duck eggs are way less popular than other animal protein sources due to their high cholesterol and tangy smell, preventing people from consuming duck eggs.
The low demand for duck eggs impacted the duck entrepreneurs, including the breeders and laborers in managing the duck farm. They faced a lot of business failures due to the market’s low demand for duck eggs.
Addressing the issue, an entrepreneurial group of students in the production/cultivation field of UNAIR Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) created odorless, low-cholesterol duck eggs business innovation. The group leader, Rizky Ahmad Maulana Hamdany, and the team members, Vany Erdiyanti Pratama, Rani Idealistanti Osmena, Sulistina, and Muhammad Hasan Fuadi initiated a business idea, Duck Point Special Egg with Low Cholesterol.
The idea brought the Accounting students to receive Kemendikbud Ristek’s Entrepreneurial Student Development Program (P2MW) funding. “At first, it was a family business, a regular duck farm located in Probolinggo,” Rizky told UNAIR NEWS on Monday, October 10, 2022.
To produce odorless, low-cholesterol duck eggs, Rizky and his friends gave some treatments. One of them is the fresh garlic treatment to decrease the cholesterol rate in the eggs.
“In the treatment, we soak the duck feed with garlic water for one night. We mix the soaked feed with certain ingredients before feeding it to the ducks. This treatment is effective in decreasing the cholesterol rate,” he said.

Another treatment given was the betel chalk treatment during the egg production process. “We soak the duck eggs in the betel chalk water for three hours to get the tangy smells out,” said the second-year student.
Under the supervision of Ni Made Gitanadya SM MM, Rizky and his teams hoped to improve the duck farm entrepreneurs’ welfare in Probolinggo.
“Through P2MW, we aspired to increase the duck farm labors’ welfare in Probolinggo by providing workshops, work opportunities, and higher income,” he said.
Using “In every egg, lie duck breeders’ prayers” for the tagline, the students, interested in pursuing business hoped to expand the business.
“Every day, we produce 90 to 100 eggs, adjusting to the ducks’ condition. We would like to expand the business into 200 eggs,” Rizky ended the interview.
