UNAIR NEWS – Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga – Dr. Soetomo is keen to set the strategy towards internationalization. A number of efforts are taken, such as exploring possible visiting professor program by collaborating with some professors from prestigious universities from abroad.

Prof.Dr. Med Mueller M David, a gynecologist from the University of Bern, Switzerland, is expected to collaborate with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FK UNAIR – Dr. Soetomo in a visiting professor program next year.

If it happens, then there will be a conferment from FK UNAIR in the field of health science after Prof. Gustaaf Albert Dekker, MD., PhD., FDCOG., FRANZCOG from The University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2016.

Head of Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr.Soetomo Dr. H. Hendy Hendarto, dr., Sp.OG (K) said that both institutions are currently exploring the possibility of a collaboration. Prof. Mueller on his last visit to FK UNAIR gave an International General Lecture to lecturers and students of PPDS specialist medical education program, at FK UNAIR Hall, October 25.

Hendy viewed that UNAIR in order to go to World Class University needs supports for its international collaboration.

“We hope this cooperation will continue. Because the process is not easy and it takes time, then as we go along, we will meet some requirements for visiting professor award for him, ” he said.

For two days, Prof Mueller gave a public lecture and a case discussion session. “Our department has a routine case report, Prof Mu Mueller is involved to provide feedback on the actions we have taken to deal with such cases,” he said.

In addition to establish collaboration, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FK UNAIR – Dr. Soetomo focuses on improving the quality of journal books they pioneered several years ago.

“We have a journal that has been accredited by DIKTI. The plan, we will enter Prof Mueller and Prof Dekker as an international review, ” he said.

In the lecture, Prof Mueller presented a topic on endometriosis or gynecological diseases of woman.

In Surabaya, the case of endometriosis is quite a lot. Team of doctors Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FK UNAIR – Dr. Soetomo continues to conduct researches on it.

“Some of our studies explore the potential of curcumin to suppress pain caused by Endometriosis. It works for animals but not yet proven in humans. We also develop research on stemcell for handling the case, “he said.

Hendy hoped the presence of Prof. Mueller can motivate international publications within the scope of Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology FK UNAIR – Dr. Soetomo, as well as share his knowledge to students, especially in terms of handling cases of endometriosis. (*)
