UNAIR NEWS – All Universitas Airlangga alumni congratulate the reelection of Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Hatta Ali, SH., MH, to hold Chairman of the Supreme Court (MA) RI for 2017-2022 period. Graduated from the Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga in 1977, he once again appointed Chairman of MA after winning unanimously, bagging more than 50% of MA judges vote on Tuesday (14/2).

Out of 47 supreme court judges eligible for choosing one of them as chairman of MA, Prof. Hatta Ali bagged the most votes, 38 votes. Followed by judge Andi Samsan Nganro with seven votes, and Suhadi and Mukti Arto with one vote each.

“Thank you all for your trust so that I once again hold chairman of MA for the II period. Thank you also for the cooperation we have been built so far, be it with leaders, supreme court judges, ad hoc judges, secretariat officers, secretariat, or staff in four judicial institutions under MA,” said Prof. Hatta after he was chosen.

Dr. Akmal Boedianto, SH., M.Si., Chairman of Alumni Association of Faculty of Law (IKA-FH) UNAIR, on behalf of the big family of FH-UA graduates also congratulated Prof. Hatta Ali’s appointment as chairman of Supreme Court for the second time. This means his first term of office was considered successful and full of achievements in building better MA performance, and his leadership was accepted by all big family of MA RI, from supreme-court judges to MA’s employees.

Akmal, who was also the General Secretary of IKA Universitas Airlangga (IKA-UA) believed that the supreme court judges felt at ease in doing their job because Prof HA never intervened them in solving a case. This was also a proof that he is a man of high integrity. As we know, Prof. Hatta Ali is also holding the position of Central Leader’s General Chairman of IKA Universitas Airlangga.

”As the Chairman of IKA-FH and General Secretary of IKA-UA I witnessed myself how he positioned himself in his capacity as the Chairman of the Supreme Court – he kept a distance especially with convicts. Every time I meet with him I have never even once talked about any law cases in any levels of courts,” said Pemprov Jatim Chairman of Education and Training to unair.news.

He hoped in this second term of office Prof. HA would be more successful in developing MA as the keeper and last fortress of justice in Indonesia. For UNAIR, Akmal added, it was a joy to have a nationally-successful graduate, especially because he was appointed through a very objective, open, democratic process, without any political interference because the election mechanism was carried out by and for the supreme court’s judges themselves.

“I can say Pak Hatta Ali is one of graduates who’s famous for his motto ‘excellent with morality.’ He is an Airlangga freak. So his devotion to the nation is the representative of UNAIR’s devotion to the nation too,” said the ex-duty officer of Gresik Regent.

To all graduates of FH UNAIR, especially judges everywhere, follow the way of thinking, attitudes, and behavior of your highest leader. The same goes to those who become advocates, be responsible for the dignity, value, and reputation of the court. This includes prosecuting attorneys.

“If you are a judge, prosecutor, and an advocate/a lawyer from FHUA, work professionally to maintain integrity, and show that FHUA graduates are excellent with morality. Pak HA is ours, so we must take care of him,” added Akmal.

Indonesia is a constitutional state, and nowadays we are facing s serious problem in terms of law enforcement. Injustices reigns everywhere. Bias and case criminalization happens where law is used as the tool by those in power that only the only keeper of justice is courts with judges. That’s the burden of a FHUA graduate called Prof. HM. Hatta Ali.

”Let’s pray, may Allah grants him health, patience, and sincerity. May Allah protects him all the time,” said Dr. Akmal Boedianto.

Polite and Tough

IKA-UA adviser Drs. Ec. Mashariono, MBA also congratulated Prof. HM Hatta Ali as Chairman of Supreme Court 2017-2022 period. For five years sat as General Chairman of IKA-UA, he has to admit that Prof. Hatta Ali was very polite, but tough in principle and very futuristic.

”As the proof, when PP IKA-UA was inaugurated five years ago, to TV and newspapers, he strictly said that PP IKA-UA wouldn’t get involved in practical politics. The mission is brotherhood with alma mater and its members’ prosperity. Prof. Hatta Ali always tries hard to meet with other PP IKA-UA managing board whenever he visits East Java and discusses IKA-UA programs,” said the FE-UA graduate generation 1964.

Prof. Hatta Ali also pay his utmost attention to PP IKA-UA every time the management board visit Jakarta, and he is available in the morning, noon or evening. Despite his high-rank position, he is friendly and welcoming and have a close relationship with the PP IKA managing board. Busy as he is, he always has time to keep in pace with UNAIR programs and PP IKA-UA, e.g. when they did a volunteer work, helping people who had been hit by flood in North Jakarta two years ago.

”You can see a sign ‘TROUBLESOME GUESTS: KEEP OUT’ in his room. He doesn’t want to play around with his principle as the Chairman of the Supreme Court. That’s the proof of his strong personality and his judicative principle, since graduating from UNAIR, became an ordinary echelon until he sits on his position now. May in the future Prof. HA will always be granted health and strength in carrying a ”Sword with Eyes Blindfolded” in leading justice knights and their institution in Indonesia,” said Pak Mas, his nickname.

IKA-UA WhatsApp group also congratulated him. “Alhamdulillah, awesome,” wrote Cak Budi Widayanto, General Secretary Deputy of IKA-UA. “Alhamdulillah thank God,” said Cak Badri Munir Sukoco, an FEB graduate who now holds Chairman of BPP UNAIR. Agoes Widiastono said: “Alhamdulillah, may he be more trustworthy in his second term of office.” “Alhamdulillah, may God bless,” wrote Noer Sidik, an FIB-UA graduate.
