UNAIR NEWS – Dr. Ari Prasetyo SE., MSi. is one of the academicians coming from Department of Sharia Economics Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR. But he is now the Vice Dean of III Faculty of Vocational Studies. Besides being familiar with economic and management studies, the man live in Wonokromo, Surabaya is also interested in Islamic studies. His expertise is Human Resources Management and Islamic Leadership. Specifically, he called this as Islamic Human Resources.

The man who is active in CIEBERD (Center for Islamic Economics and Business Resource Development) UNAIR, said that generally Islamic economy prospect is excellent. In its development, this field of study has various sub-studies such as sharia finance, entrepreneurship, Islamic human resources and many more. Every sub-study develops synergetic and complete each other as one comprehensive economic study.

Asked about Islamic leadership, Ari said that the scope of these studies is very broad, not only related to one religion only. Even, the main role model is the Prophet Muhammad, the perfect example of a leader in Islam, leaderships of other figures, either Islam or non-Islam, also studied deeply. Hitler, Mussolini, to Saddam Hussein, are studied. All are compared to the criteria of ideal leader.

Leadership model of the Prophet Muhammad Model was also explained in details and not only from one aspect only. For example, it was known in history that he is a democratic as well as authoritarian leader. In some situation, he behaved democratically but sometimes also authoritarian. What needs to be see is how leaders should act in some situations.

“There were a lot of lessons can be taken from the Prophet Muhammad,” he said.

Islamic leadership does not only discuss leadership at national level but also at company, institution and even household level. It means that the topic touches all elements of life.

Beside teaching, Ari is also active in organizations. He often conducts researches and publishes his works including conducts his community service. All is done to implement University Tri Dharma. Some of his publications were Sikap Mahasiswa Atas Penayangan Iklan Produk Melalui Internet (ECommerce)dan Pengaruhnya Terhadap Keputusan Pembelian Produk serta Pengelolaan Keuangan Negara dalam Konsep Epistimologi Islam (Islamic Finance National Seminar). Ari also often gives training to micro, small and medium scale enterprises as it is the real sector has central roles for East Java economic growth.
