UNAIR NEWS – As a form of students’ community care for people around campus, Community Service Department (Pengmas) BEM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga holds an action called Serbung – Seribu Bungkus. This action is an event where they distribute wrapped rice among people around Campus B UNAIR.
The Serbung action, which was first initiated on Friday (17/3), is aimed to raise awareness and concern about the community, especially people who need help, amid FEB students. In the last event Pengmas Department BEM FEB co-operated with ‘Amira Bilqis’ organization and succeeded in distributing 300 packets of wrapped rice among the community.
The covered areas of distribution were located around UNAIR campus, from the streets of Dharmawangsa, Kertajaya, Pucang, Kali Dami, Ngagel, to Dharmahusada
“In every street, we distribute wrapped rice to pedicab drivers, parking attendants, and street cleaners,” said Dimas Agil Ariyanto, Pengmas Department Deputy.
Meanwhile, Pengmas Deputy Primastari Ayu Damayanti mentioned that the majority of people who accepted the wrapped rice were not native Surabayan. Most of them were recorded as migrants instead.
As a new work program, the students’ enthusiasm to participate as volunteers in it was positive. “There were about 20 volunteers, let alone that vacancies are still open for BEM inner circle,” added Prim, Primastari’s nickname.
In the future, Pengmas Department BEM FEB will ask the students’ assemblage (Hima) and students’ organization (Ormawa) to join the pengmas activities.
“Something which is done together will bring change, and revive the students’ character as the agent of change,” Prim added.
Besides the plan to work with Hima and Ormawa components, Pengmas Department BEM FEB also wishes to ask peer students of FEB to be part of this activity. This is because we are often unaware that there are a lot of people who need help. While we can, why don’t we? (*)
