UNAIR NEWS – The 13th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) took place from Sunday, July 28, 2024 to Thursday, August 1, 2024. This Conference-Festival (Confest) served as a platform for academics and researchers to showcase their research results.

One of the cultural researchers was Sinta Ridwan. Known as Sinta, she presented her work on Paleography in western Java. Her exhibit was featured at Balai Pemuda Surabaya throughout the 13th ICAS event.

Sinta presented various ancient scripts found on inscriptions in western Java, dating from the 5th to the 16th century. Although western Java has fewer inscriptions compared to eastern Java, it boasts a greater variety of ancient scripts.

Utilizing sources from inscriptions and manuscripts, Sinta applied paleographic techniques to illustrate these ancient scripts.

The scripts were presented with a 3D holographic media that emitted light. The inverted pyramid-shaped acrylic with Final South Brahmic ancient scripts became the focal point of the exhibition space, captivating and intriguing visitors.

Sinta shared that this exhibition was the culmination of her research during her doctoral studies in Archaeology at the University of Indonesia. Displaying her hard work to a global audience was an exhilarating experience for Sinta. “It all came together in less than two weeks. It was intense, emotional, and incredibly rewarding,” she said.

She added that she sacrificed sleep to ensure her work was ready for 13th ICAS. “The last two weeks were extremely hectic and full of all-nighters,” she recounted.

For Sinta, 13th ICAS was a big opportunity to present her research to the world. “This is my chance to showcase my hard work to a wide audience, not just locally but globally,” she concluded.
