197 UNAIR students conduct KKN in Jember, regency government expect Foot and Mouth Disease overcome

UNAIR NEWS – 197 students of Universitas Airlangga held a Community Service Program (KKN) Learning with Community (BBK) in Jember Regency, East Java.  Their arrival with the field supervisors (DPL) was welcomed at the Jember Regency Education Office Hall, Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The Head of UNAIR Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) attended the reception, Dr. Gadis Meinar Sari, Dr. MKes. She said the Community Service program this time was called BBK or Learning with Community, which was one of the Ministry of Education and Research’s Independent Campus Learning (MBKM) programs. Dr. Gadis said, in principle, BBK is student service as a form of the university’s concern for the community.

“Dear students, learn as much as possible based on the field of knowledge that you studied in college. This is one of the cradles of growth, how you could participate in improving or solving problems in society,” said dr. Gadis.

For the following 25 days until February 4, 2023, students will serve in two sub-districts in Jember, Panti District, and Sukorambi District. She explained students taking part in these activities are from various fields of science, including Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and School of Health and Natural Sciences.

“The deployment of students must be based on problems in the village or region. So that the knowledge gained can be applied, “ she added.

Message from the regency government

Meanwhile, dr. Hendro, First Assistant Regional Secretary of Jember Regency, in his speech, hoped that Community Service Program in Jember could strengthen the relationship between students and the community. Also, students can explore and develop potential in existing areas, as well as help solve some of the problems faced by the community.

“Currently, there are cases of foot and mouth disease. Hopefully, the arrival of students can help solve the problems that occur, “explained Hendro.

DPL of Serut 1 and Serut 2 groups, Panti District, Jember Regency, Herri Trilaksana SSi MSi PhD said education regarding stunting and foot and mouth disease (PMK) handling was one of the KKN programs he mentored.

“Hopefully, students will no longer be awkward when interacting with the community, even though most of the people here speak Madurese,” he said.

Apart from being attended by 197 students, the event was attended by Jember Regency officials. This KKN also worked with the head of the Jember branch of the UNAIR Alumni Association, Dr. I Nyoman Semita SpOT. (*)
