UNAIR NEWS – UNAIR Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs (DPKKA) and UNAIR Alumni Association (IKA UNAIR) held a talk show on Thursday afternoon, May 19, 2022. The guest speakers were alumni currently pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in Nursing in the UK.
Lathifatun Nisa’ Z, an alumna of UNAIR Faculty of Nursing currently studying for a master’s degree at the University of Edinburgh was invited as the guest speaker. She grasped the learning opportunity through Chevening, a UK government’s international scholarship program. Vita stated that the scholarship is open for all majors with no age limit.
With an average 49,000 Chevening applicants, only 5,000 got into the interview stage. The key is how to create the most standout personal essay,” she said.
Vita explained that four aspects must be included in the scholarship essay. First of all, the leadership factor and its effect. She said that the essay should demonstrate the applicant’s leadership experience and how it made a difference either in the applicant and the surrounding community. Second, the networking and shared learning experiences.
“Third, the study plan. It is essential to provide the plan and objectives that are not just quoting the university or focused on the university ranking,” she said.
At the end of the session, Vita advised the participants to stay focused on their plans and the influence of study results on the applicant’s career plans or goals.
“We have to be specific with the career plan. What we plan to do, its relations in fulfilling SDGs, and how can it benefit Chevening and the partnership between the UK and Indonesia,” she stated.
The tips and tricks on passing the master’s and doctoral LPDP scholarships were also discussed in the talk show. The guest speakers also shared their personal learning experiences in the UK and their career prospects in the health and nursing fields.
