UNAIR NEWS – 8,150 new students were inaugurated by Universitas Airlangga Rector, Prof Dr Moh Nasih SE MT Ak, on August 18, 2022, in Airlangga Convention Center. He emphasized the importance of knowing each other.

Prof Nasih believed social awareness of surroundings, particularly among academicians, is highly important.

“Don’t sit for hours only to ignore your surroundings,” Prof Nasih warned.

Togetherness also becomes a crucial principle for peaceful and harmonious living in the community.

“Togetherness, harmony, cooperation, helping each other, it’s all started with knowing one another. Out of sight, out of mind,” said the accounting expert.

Knowing the surroundings will help recognize the potential of people for future cooperation. “How do you expect harmonious cooperation when you don’t even know each other?” Prof Nasih said.

He believed that knowing each other will prevent unwanted risks. “Any kind of clashes, especially between students, was rooted in not knowing each other.”

Therefore, Universitas Airlangga builds a collaborative program to encourage students to know one another. The multidisciplinary collaborative program allows students from different majors to work together.

“In the first and second semester, it won’t focus on the faculty level yet; we will unite them in a joint lecture instead,” he said.

The faculty students were expected to know one another through this program. The rector stated that all UNAIR students from various majors should collaborate.

“So medical students will learn the social and cultural aspects; the social students will learn about medical and engineering; the engineering students will understand more about humanity, and so forth,” he added.

In the end, Prof Nasih highlighted that the barrier between each faculty and the individual barrier should be minimized. Students must not limit their social circle to their own faculties.

“We make sure the interdisciplinary science is upheld in Universitas Airlangga,” he affirmed.
