UNAIR NEWS – Studying in higher education allows students to choose suitable advanced programs according to their talent and interest. This option also allows people to get their dream job.
Law has become one of the most favored programs to produce alumni with wider job opportunities beyond legal positions, such as journalist, lecturer, entrepreneur, etc. The graduates can also build professional careers at government institutions like ministries.
Maria Kristi Endah Murni SH MH is one of the Faculty of Law (FH) notable alumni who has worked as the Director General of Air Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) since December 2022.
The law alumna has built her career at the Kemenhub since 1994. She started on the echelon IV level as the Section Head and echelon III as the Head of Sub Directorate. She was promoted to the Director of Air Transport at echelon II, followed by the Expert Staff position at echelon I, until she was appointed the Director General of Civil Aviation.
Kristi’s strong interest in international law since her university days brought her to this point. On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, she shared her past learning experience at FH UNAIR.
‘Unyil’ as the Director General of Civil Aviation
Kristi’s friends gave her the nickname ‘Unyil’ for her lively and sociable personality when she was a student.
“While there are three petite people in my circle, I was the only one with the nickname,” she said.
Their solidity and closeness were the loveliest things Kristi recollected. She was happy that FH UNAIR has held alumni reunions several times to strengthen their bond.
“I have always adhered to the simplicity, closeness, and teamwork we’ve had during our uni days until I’m working at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Those include prioritizing teamwork over individual work, especially in doing our official duties,” she said.
Joining student organization activities at FH UNAIR came in handy for Kristi in learning, organizing, managing, and leading in professional work, from the IV echelon to the time being.
Tips on building careers
Kristi further shared some tips to build careers at the Kemenhub. It is essential to constantly upgrade someone’s skills and enrich global knowledge, especially transportation-related ones.
“Keep upgrading your skills, enriching your knowledge with information and recent issues on transportation at the national and global level. Expand your network in the field of transportation and other fields. It’s very helpful to build your future,” she said.
