UNAIR NEWS – Rector of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak became a guest speaker at the Top Executive University Gathering at Hotel Vasa, Surabaya on Thursday, February 23, 2023. On that occasion, Prof. Nasih discussed the role of higher education leaders in formulating policies and commitments toward world-class universities.
Orientation on Higher Education quality
Prof. Nasih said it is a challenge and an opportunity for leaders to mobilize all university components to become a world-class university. A commitment to improving quality is required to make an impact on local, national, and global communities.
“The role of the leader in higher education institution is very strategic, especially in setting common goals. We originally aimed to be in the Top 500 WUR rankings. For us, there is no need to wait ’being big’ to be a pioneer, as long as we are able to prove it with the quality we provide,” explained Prof. Nasih.
Universitas Airlangga strategy
Prof. Nasih said that in 2021-2026 Universitas Airlangga has a main strategy to optimize added value and make a significant contribution to society. Of course, this is realized by maximizing value to all stakeholders, optimizing systems with the latest technology, and making a significant impact locally and globally.
“The commitment to become a SMART University is the spirit and direction of our struggle to make a significant contribution. SMART University provides the greatest opportunity for the entire academic community to maximize their competencies,” said Prof. Nasih.
Collaboration required
In his speech, Prof. Nasih encouraged all rectors to collaborate and work together to improve. According to him, strengthening the quality of higher education institutions will lead to an improved overall reputation.
The Top Executive University Gathering held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology was attended by 40 universities in Indonesia which are part of the Top 1000 QS Asia University Ranking (QS AUR) 2023. In the long term, this activity is intended to encourage universities in Indonesia to improve quality to compete globally. University leaders attended the Top Executive University Gathering to initiate collaborative steps together. (*)
