UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga commemorated the 2023 National Education Day on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Held at the front yard of the Management Building of Universitas Airlangga, the National Education Day ceremony was attended by university leaders and officials, faculty members, administrative staff, and students, who dressed in traditional costumes.

Supporting Emancipated Learning (Merdeka Belajar)

The 2023 National Education Day carries the theme of “Enliving Emancipated Learning Together”. In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak called UNAIR academicians to support the program initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

“Let us celebrate the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka together, and let’s enliven Merdeka Belajar,” Prof. Nasih said.

The UNAIR Rector called all academicians to support the program by accommodating and encouraging students to participate in the Merdeka Belajar.

Besides, he requested all academicians to continue the legacy of the independent learning program. The program aims to achieve an independent, principled, and self-reliant Indonesian education.

“Let’s celebrate today with the spirit of continuing the legacy of independent learning. We must be able to bring Indonesian education towards independence, self-reliance, and free from dependence,” he said.

Wearing traditional costumes

The National Education Day commemoration marks the moment of independent learning. Furthermore, UNAIR academicians got to show their identity and creativity.

All of the academicians were dressed in traditional costumes for the ceremony. The Rector invited them to describe the philosophy behind each traditional attire.

Prof. Nasih further asked the academicians to sing traditional songs, promoting cultural identities in UNAIR and building unity among the academic community.

At the end of the event, he rewarded those who wore the best traditional attire, which added the festivity.
