UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to make efforts and strategic steps to gain global recognition. One of its efforts was participating in the 75th National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) Annual Conference and Expo held on 30 May-2 June 2023 in Washington DC. UNAIR participation aims to open opportunities and strengthen cooperation with overseas university partners, focused in five main areas:

1. Lecturer Exchange Program

The lecturer exchange program aims to bring together academics in teaching and research activities. In this program, UNAIR offers three collaboration schemes for lecturers.

First, academic lecture invites global academics to join in online activities such as guest lectures or writing training in seminar classes. Second, visiting fellow is the same program as the academic lecture, but it is held offline. Third, Airlangga Post-Doctoral Fellowship is specifically for doctoral graduates who wish to conduct joint research with UNAIR academics.

2. Student Exchange Program

UNAIR also offers exchange programs for international students to study at UNAIR. Two offline student exchange programs are available for one or two semesters.

First, the Academic Mobility Exchange for Undergraduate and Master at Airlangga (AMERTA) is a program for international students focused on current problems in Indonesia. Second, Learning Indonesian Language at Airlangga University (LINGUA) is a program for international students interested in learning the Indonesian language and culture.

3. Joint Class and Tailor-Made Programs

UNAIR is committed to creating breakthroughs to improve higher education’s Key Performance Indicators (IKU). For this reason, UNAIR offers two development programs: joint class and tailor-made program. The joint class program is an opportunity for students who want to study with academics and practitioners from UNAIR and partners. Meanwhile, in tailor-made programs, university partners can create programs in Indonesia with specific needs and interests.

4. International Research Collaboration

Furthermore, UNAIR provides several international research funding schemes focusing on institutional strengthening with international partners. The program aims to increase the number of international publications, citations, and networks.

5. International Grants

UNAIR is also interested in collaborating with universities in the United States (US), Canada, and several other countries in South America. The collaborations include the Fulbright Specialist Program, English Language Program: Specialist Program, English Language Program: Fellow Program, Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for US Students (IDEAS), and Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED).

Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Muhammad Miftahussurur, M.Kes., Sp.PD-KGEH., Ph.D. said that this NAFSA event was an excellent opportunity for UNAIR to gain international exposure and visibility. “As the fourth-best university in Indonesia, UNAIR has many advantages that are sure to be of interest to international academics,” said Prof. Miftah. “Several countries have become targets for expanding cooperation, especially the United States and South American countries,” he added.

Based on data from Airlangga Global Engagement in May 2023, UNAIR has established 287 collaborations with 191 international partners from 46 countries (*).
