UNAIR NEWS – As one of the world-class universities, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) opens the widest opportunity for anyone who wants to gain knowledge. It is not only open to domestic students but also to international students. Students from Mahidol University have experienced it firsthand.

As many as 20 Mahidol University students will study at UNAIR in 7 days. The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Prof Dr Moh Yasin welcomed the delegates on Monday, June 19, 2023.

Prof. Yasin said he was happy for the arrival of students from Mahidol University. He said it was a good moment of collaboration between UNAIR and Mahidol University. “This activity is a part of the international mobility program at UNAIR. It is also a form of the established cooperation,” he said.

Learning SDGs

Meanwhile, Dr. Rapee Boonplueang, Head of the Biology Department, Faculty of Science Mahidol University, said they wanted to learn about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. According to Dr Rapee, UNAIR is the best destination to learn about SDGs.

“Many of our students are interested in how the SDGs are implemented in Indonesia. We think UNAIR is the right partner to learn about them,” he said. Apart from learning about SDGs, they are also interested in learning about tourism and local culture in Surabaya.

On the first day, they toured the UNAIR campus. One of the places they visited was the Institute for Tropical Diseases (LPT). The Mahidol University students saw firsthand how the research process was carried out at LPT. They also visited the Ethnographic Museum and the Airlangga Sharia and Entrepreneurship Education Center (ASEEC) Building.

One of the concerns for Dr. Rapee is the presence of ASEEC. By visiting ASEEC, the Mahidol University delegation had the opportunity to see Surabaya from a height.

“I was surprised by this building. It is an interesting, big and beautiful building. It is a good place for students to gain knowledge,” he said.

Even though it was the first time Dr. Rapee visited UNAIR, according to him, it gave him a good impression. UNAIR has various interesting programs and research. “UNAIR has a good research environment and strong research groups,” he explained.

Lots of potential

After knowing the various facilities in UNAIR, Dr. Rapee saw that there would be a lot of potential for collaboration. “I see a lot of potential for further collaboration that Mahidol University and UNAIR can do,” he explained.

Dr. Rapee revealed the harmonious relationship between UNAIR and Mahidol University is well-established. Furthermore, Mahidol University will gladly welcome the arrival of the UNAIR delegates if they visit Thailand.

“Without UNAIR, our program will not work. If UNAIR wants to send students to study, we will be happy to welcome them there,” he concluded. (*)
