UNAIR NEWS – Prof Ir Panut Mulyono MEng DEng IPU ASEAN Eng attended the UNAIR management meeting and focus group discussion (FGD) at the Mandalika Ballroom Pullman Hotel, West Nusa Tenggara. The UGM professor and former rector was invited to give his speech on the sharing motivation session, Monday, July 31, 2023.

He delivered his material “Leadership Towards an Entrepreneurial University”.

In his speech, Prof Panut stated that the university is closely related to the tri dharma (three pillars) of higher education. The dynamics of higher education are continuously developing, starting from the agent of education, research, knowledge, and economic development.

“Because the role of universities is beyond generating ideas and innovations. Those can be turned into product outputs for economic resilience,” he said.

Educational revolution

Educational revolutions are classified into three generations: knowledge transfer, building research, and knowledge to drive socio-economic development. “The growth and development of socio-economic conditions continuously rely on knowledge,” he said.

Managing a university is not just about pursuing targets. The contributions must be made in the best way possible. “All of this is inseparable from leadership and many other factors,” he said.

Responding to the entrepreneurial university agenda, Prof Panut emphasized that it is closely related to innovation culture, invention, and incubation. “The findings are tested in our incubator, which can then be commercialized as a venture. From this point, graduates won’t only be job seekers but also job creators,” he said.

In the end, he emphasized that universities should be able to drive the nation’s economy. Downstreaming becomes a crucial aspect. Additionally, collaboration is highly essential in the downstream of research and innovation.

“At last, lecturers must be a driver of innovation and build a network of partners. Most importantly, university leaders must ensure that the climate of innovation is thriving and well-established.”
