UNAIR NEWSUniversitas Airlangga’s Psychology delegates joined the Asia University Taiwan exchange program. Thirteen students participated in the program, held from December 3 to 8, 2023, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Suryanto MSi, Psikolog.

The agenda is a collaborative program between the Faculty of Psychology Universitas Airlangga and Asia University. “The initiative is from the faculty through its collaboration with the Psychology Department of Asia University,” Syanika, one of the participants, told UNAIR NEWS on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

The students learned about the issues faced by Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan. For instance, the government assistance to the migrant worker organizations. “We studied how the government supports these organizations and the activities they conduct, such as celebrating the Indonesian Independence Day and so on,” she said.

The issues faced by Indonesian migrant workers abroad are often overlooked. Therefore, the material regarding immigrants in Taiwan provides insights and awareness to students about the importance of regulations and government assistance from Indonesia in addressing immigrant issues. “The materials have broadened my perspective. I’ve become more aware of their situation. The organizations managing immigrants truly help, especially during challenging times,” she said.

Aside from studying the immigrant problems in Taiwan, the students also took part in the sit-in class and seminar. They presented materials on generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and discussed the topics.

“We exchanged ideas about the topic in the presentation with the Asia University students. So, we were blended with the locals,” she said.

The seminar involved the Dean and Vice-Dean 3 of the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Suryanto and Endang Retno Surjaningrum, MAppPsych, PhD, Psikolog. Each of them presented materials on “Problematics of Cross-Cultural Research in Psychology” and “Delphi Method in Psychology” respectively.

On the other day, the students joined the Asia University campus tour. The tour was held to promote every part of Asia University. “We also joined a campus tour, which was incredibly exciting for me as we were taken around learning buildings, the library, and other interesting areas,” she said.

The exchange program offers multiple benefits. Students get to expand their networks, build confidence, and enhance their interaction skills. Syanika hoped that the exchange program would bring positive impacts to the participants.

She hoped that the collaborative program between the Faculty of Psychology UNAIR and international university partners would continue. “I hope to establish connections not just from my visit to Taiwan but also from other nations. I look forward to more collaborative initiatives featuring even more thrilling events,” she said.
