UNAIR NEWS – Once again, the Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Universitas Airlangga welcomes students from the Department of History specializing in Southeast Asia from Kasetsart University, Thailand. They are participating in a full-time inbound study program from February 12 to March 1, 2024.
David Segoh SS MEd PhD, Faculty Ambassador for Internationalization at FIB UNAIR, revealed that the program consists of in-class meetings and city tours that focus on studying the language, history, and culture of Indonesia. The program stems from the requirement for Kasetsart University students to learn the language and culture of Indonesia as part of the Southeast Asian region.
“Students are required to learn one language in Southeast Asia, which is Indonesian. They come to gain a deeper understanding of the Indonesian language and culture by participating in various courses related to language, culture, and history. They also explore various aspects of Indonesian culture, such as making batik and gamelan art,” he said.
The program aims to strengthen the bond between the universities and promote the culture, language, and local arts to ASEAN countries.
“During the three weeks of the program, students will participate in various in-class meetings focusing on their study concentration, including Introduction to Southeast Asia, Introduction to Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers, Indonesian Music Studies, History of Health, and Indonesian Manuscript,” he said.
For practical studies, students will also engage in field activities to explore Indonesia’s cultural heritage. They will learn to play gamelan, make batik, and visit historical sites in Surabaya and beyond.
Through this program, David hopes to introduce more of Surabaya and East Java’s culture and arts. He also hopes that FIB UNAIR’s excellence in this inbound program will strengthen and expand collaboration networks with global universities.
