UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has officially sent off 18 teams to compete in the 37th National Student Science Week (PIMNAS). The send-off ceremony took place at the Management Office Hall, MERR-C Campus, on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

With the slogan “Universitas Airlangga, One Determination, One Spirit, Guaranteed Victory,” UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE, MT, Ak, urged the teams to capitalize on this unique opportunity, especially since UNAIR is hosting this year’s PIMNAS, which will run from Tuesday to Friday, October 15-18, 2024.

“This is a rare opportunity because this year we are the host. We must make the most of this moment. Now is the time for UNAIR to prove itself as the best,” Prof. Nasih told the 37th PIMNAS contingent.

Prof. Nasih also expressed his hope that the 18 competing teams would bring home gold medals for UNAIR. With the university’s 70th anniversary approaching, he noted that winning gold at PIMNAS would be an especially meaningful gift for the institution.

“If the number of teams has doubled from last year, then the gold medals should triple. This aligns perfectly with UNAIR’s 70th anniversary, so consider this as a special gift you’re giving to us,” Prof. Nasih added.

Bigger contingent

Compared to last year, UNAIR has doubled its contingent size for the 37th PIMNAS. The university successfully advanced 18 teams, consisting of 8 teams for the Exact Sciences Research (PKM-RE) category, 3 for Creative Works (PKM-KC), 3 for Entrepreneurship (PKM-K), 2 for Social Humanities Research (PKM-RSH), 1 for Written Futuristic Ideas (PKM-GFT), and 1 for Innovative Works (PKM-KI). The Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) contributed the most finalists.

Prof. Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH, MH, CN, Director of Student Affairs at UNAIR, expressed confidence that this year UNAIR would secure multiple gold medals and take the overall championship. He also reminded the contingent to maintain a winning mindset throughout the competition.

“Hosting the 37th PIMNAS at UNAIR gives us a strong home advantage. Just like how PERSEBAYA always wins when they play in Surabaya, even against a team like Liverpool. So, while we face top universities, because it’s at UNAIR, we need to embody the spirit of PERSEBAYA,” Prof. Subhan said.
