Board of Trustees Chair
Prof. Sunarto was born in Sumenep, Madura, on 11 April 1959. He has served as the Vice Chief Justice for Judicial Affairs of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia since 3 April 2023.
An alumnus of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Sunarto was elected as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the 2022–2027 term on 19 December 2022 during a plenary meeting held at the UNAIR Management Office, MERR-C Campus. His appointment was endorsed by members of the Board of Trustees representing the community, academic staff, administrative staff, students, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

The Rector, supported by the Vice Rectors and the University’s leadership team, oversees the administration of the University by providing strategic direction, ensuring good governance, and advancing education, research, innovation, and community engagement in pursuit of UNAIR’s vision as a world-class university.
Prof Dr Muhammad Madyan SE MSi MFin
Rector of Universitas Airlangga
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, S.E., M.Si., M.Fin. serves as the Rector of Universitas Airlangga for the 2025–2030 term. A faculty member of the Faculty of Economics and Business, he remains actively engaged in teaching and research, with scholarly interests in corporate finance, investment, and capital markets. His research has received competitive funding and has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in these fields.
Before assuming the rectorship, Prof. Madyan served as Director of Finance from 2014 to 2015 and later as Vice Rector for Resources until 2025, playing a key role in strengthening the University’s governance and institutional development.
