UNAIR NEWS – Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto drh DEA has concluded his term as Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at Universitas Airlangga with a legacy marked by notable progress. Under his guidance, UNAIR strengthened its student and alumni ecosystem, affirming its identity as a university that not only excels academically but also actively addresses social issues, promotes global education, and fosters strong graduate character.

Between 2019 and 2024, UNAIR students earned 1,419 accolades—311 international, 1,038 national, and 70 regional. These accomplishments secured UNAIR’s position among the top 15 state universities recognized for student excellence. The results reflect the university’s commitment to cultivating student potential through structured development and interdepartmental collaboration.

UNAIR’s strong emphasis on educational inclusivity was acknowledged globally, as it ranked first in the world in the Times Higher Education’s SDG 1 (No Poverty) indicator. Each year, the university provides scholarships to over 11,000 students, including those from underdeveloped regions, Papua, and developing countries. Additionally, the Airlangga Development Scholarship attracts international students, supporting UNAIR’s mission to expand equitable access to higher education worldwide.

Character education rooted in UNAIR’s core values—UNAIR HEBAT (Humble, Honest, Excellent, Brave, Agile, Transcendent)—is embedded across all academic programs, from foundational courses to interprofessional education. The Airlangga Assessment Center helps identify students’ interests and strengths early in their studies. Through the Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship, and Alumni (DPKKA), students receive tailored guidance and access to national and international certifications, with more than 1,700 students certified to date.

UNAIR’s international rankings have surged, now placing 308th globally and 52nd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings—up from beyond 600 a decade ago. Its employer reputation ranks second nationally and in the top 80 globally, underscoring the strong demand for UNAIR graduates in the workforce. More than 8,000 students have participated in the national MBKM (Freedom to Learn) initiative, enhancing experiential learning and professional preparedness.

Prof. Lukiswanto attributes these achievements to UNAIR’s consistent policy framework and performance-oriented culture. “UNAIR is guided by the SMART University model, with a broad vision of Sustainable Education for All,” he said. He added that the university’s internal quality systems have outpaced national standards, aligning instead with global benchmarks like ISO and the Malcolm Baldrige criteria.
