UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has officially deployed 205 seventh-semester students to participate in the Belajar Bersama Komunitas (BBK) or “Learning with Communities” program under the Kampus Berdampak initiative. The ceremony was held Tuesday morning (Sept. 16, 2025) at the FKH Field, MERR-C Campus. Students will carry out community service in ten locations across East Java: Lumajang, Kediri, Nganjuk, Madiun, Magetan, Gresik, Lamongan, Tuban, Bojonegoro, and Surabaya. The program will run until Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2025).
The BBK program serves as a key initiative designed to expose students to the social and veterinary health realities faced by communities. It allows participants to put classroom knowledge into practice while honing technical skills in both large- and small-animal care.
Maximizing learning and skills
Prof. Dr. Widjiati, drh., MSi, program coordinator for BBK, encouraged students to safeguard the reputation of their faculty and university. “I hope you carry the good name of FKH and UNAIR wherever you go. Follow the guidelines we have set together. May everything run smoothly, and may you return safely to campus,” she said.

She also stressed that the faculty has equipped students with the necessary resources to ensure they benefit fully from the program. She called on them to commit to learning diligently, whether in small-animal or large-animal practice. “Each group must collaborate and support one another so this BBK program can achieve its fullest impact,” she added.
Commitment to social responsibility
Dean of FKH UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Lilik Maslachah, drh., MKes, underlined the importance of academic solidarity in advancing the faculty’s initiatives. She noted that the deployment of students through BBK reflects FKH’s commitment to producing future veterinarians who excel academically and demonstrate strong social awareness.
“Today is an important milestone as you begin service across ten communities in East Java. My hope is that, as students, you gain not only insight into academic life but also a deeper understanding of real life within society,” Prof. Maslachah said.

The professor of Veterinary Pharmacy also underscored the urgency of accelerating BBK as part of FKH’s contribution to UNAIR’s pursuit of ranking among the Top 200 World-Class Universities. “Through this community-based learning program, I hope your knowledge integrates seamlessly with real-world experiences. We must accelerate this program swiftly to meet our targets,” she emphasized.
She further reminded students to uphold discipline, maintain good health, and comply with safety standards. Field-based learning, she said, is a vital step in shaping future veterinarians who embody integrity and professionalism.
