UNAIR NEWS – The widespread flooding across several parts of Sumatra has brought significant hardship, including for the families of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students. In response, UNAIR, through its Center for Social Fund Management (PUSPAS), has quickly begun collecting data and conducting outreach to ensure support reaches the students most affected.
According to Dr. Wisudanto SE MM CFP ASPM, Head of PUSPAS, the effort reflects UNAIR’s commitment to its social mission and to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education. He added that the university is also focused on helping students recover from the disaster’s aftermath.
“Based on assessments from the Education and Student Affairs Team, 64 students have been identified as needing assistance,” he said.
Reducing students’ financial strain
Beyond identifying affected students, UNAIR PUSPAS and other university units have prepared a comprehensive aid package aimed at easing financial pressures. In line with SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being, Wisudanto noted that one measure includes providing relief for the Single Tuition Fee (UKT).
“The assistance will take the form of reduced tuition fees and living cost support through the PUSPAS Sahabat Card,” he explained.
In addition to financial aid, PUSPAS UNAIR will also provide free lunch programs for impacted students, distributed through each faculty. This initiative aligns with SDG 2, Zero Hunger. “As for how long this support will continue, we will do everything we can to keep it going,” he added.
Encouraging social solidarity
Understanding the importance of collective action in strengthening social solidarity, PUSPAS is inviting the broader community to take part in this humanitarian effort. Donations from the academic community, alumni, and the public will be managed with transparency and professionalism.
“We truly depend on public participation to help channel donations through PUSPAS UNAIR,” he said.
PUSPAS welcomes all forms of support, noting that shared contributions can create a meaningful impact and reinforce the spirit of mutual assistance. “As long as there are people who care about this issue, we will remain open to any form of support,” he concluded.
