UNAIR NEWS – Writing Assistant vs. Content Generator
The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced two key roles that researchers need to understand: AI as a writing assistant and AI as a content generator. When used appropriately, AI can help improve language quality, grammar, and the overall structure of academic writing. However, the core ideas, arguments, and intellectual contributions should remain the product of the author’s own thinking. Researchers should avoid relying on AI as the primary source of content and should never copy AI-generated text directly without first reviewing and fully understanding it.
Maintaining originality and publication quality
No matter how advanced AI becomes, it cannot replace human expertise. Critical thinking and in-depth understanding remain essential to producing high-quality scholarly work. Therefore, human review should always be conducted before publication. Researchers must apply critical analysis when interpreting data and use AI solely as a supporting tool rather than a primary decision-maker. In addition, users should recognize AI’s ethical and academic limitations and maintain transparency regarding its use in accordance with journal policies.
